One of my personal goals for the new year and for my blog is to join the conversation about wellness. According to Merriam-Webster, wellness is defined as, "the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal." Common examples are healthy eating, exercise, and rest, but wellness can be manifested in many different forms. One thing I am learning as I get older is that wellness is so much more than diet and exercise. Wellness can (and should) include things like our mental, emotional, and spiritual health, the products we use in our personal care regimen, and our overall physical health, including our eye health.
I can't speak for everyone, but I have estimated that I personally spend a minimum of ten hours each day in front of the harsh glare of a digital screen. In today's modern world, this is extremely common. Many of us spend our days hard at work in front of a computer screen, then come home to have dinner, relax, and watch our favorite shows on the big television screen--sometimes with a computer or handheld digital device in our laps-- and after getting ready for bed, check what's happening in the world around us via social media on our small screens. It is also not uncommon for the harsh glare of a screen to be the first thing our eyes see in the morning. Just talking about it like this sounds so unhealthy!
One brand that is making a significant difference in the world of eye health is Coastal.
Coastal is the largest online eye wear company in the world with a mission to make vision correction accessible worldwide. This is the second pair of glasses I have received from Coastal, and I am so thankful to have found them and to have the opportunity to partner with them. The first pair of glasses I received were intended to replace my old, worn out pair, and to give my eyes a much needed break from daily contact lens wear. Shortly after, I realized I needed another pair specifically to protect my eyes from the harmful blue light of digital screens when I am not wearing my glasses. When Coastal announced the launch of their new Kam Dhillon collection, I knew it would be a great time to find my second pair. By utilizing their MyFit tool, I was able to quickly and easily narrow down the frames from the collection that would fit me correctly by using the numbers on the pair of glasses that I already own. I decided on the Campbell 52 frames in shiny rose gold with the Kodak BlueReflect lenses which reduce glare and eyestrain caused by digital screens and artificial light. I can already tell a difference in how my eyes feel, and how I feel, when I wear these glasses while I'm working and when I don't.
Not only does Coastal have affordable frames that make it easy to own multiple pairs and build your eyeglasses wardrobe, they are also making a major impact through their buy one, give one initiative. Coastal's mission has always been to improve your life by improving your sight, and through their partnership with the Essilor Vision Foundation, they are able to fulfill this on a global scale. For every pair of glasses bought, Coastal will donate a pair of glasses to someone in need.
If you are someone who has been in a long term relationship with corrective lenses for the vast majority of your life (like me), or, if you feel like you could benefit from protective lenses, let Coastal help you down the path towards healthy eyes and better vision, and simultaneously help someone in need.
