Have you ever left an experience feeling empowered, inspired, and like you have this newfound knowledge that you need to share with anyone and everyone who will listen? I recently have, and I can confidently say, that I have achieved enlightenment.
Now, I know what you're thinking--you're probably thinking about karmas, or shakras, or auras, but it's not what you think.
I'm talking about undergarments, ladies!
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a private event held at Petticoat Fair, one of Austin's long-standing, beloved, family owned businesses and one of the top lingerie stores in the nation. As a relatively new Austinite, I was unfamiliar with the store and hadn't had a chance to visit it previously, but I am always eager to discover and support local businesses. When I arrived, I was immediately surprised by how spacious the store was and by the vast variety of pieces that were displayed. I was greeted by a staff member who made me feel so welcome and who explained the Petticoat Fair experience to me. After signing in, a fitting specialist would call my name, then take me back to a private fitting room to take my measurements and pull pieces fit just for me and my style preference. Until it was my turn, I browsed the store to see what pretty items I could find. It didn't take long for me to discover not only do they carry lingerie, but they also carry approximately 30,000 types and sizes of bras in their inventory, swimsuits, cup sized swimwear, sleepwear, panties, bridal and formal pieces, accessories, and, of course, petticoats. I pulled a few super-soft and cozy pajama sets, cover-ups and beachy items for my upcoming trip to Florida, and a few pretty delicates to try on.
Once my name was called, I met with my fitting specialist, Nicolle, who ushered me back to the dressing room where my pieces I'd pulled were already waiting for me. She asked me a few questions regarding my everyday style, my comfort preference, any particular bras I was needing, and any colors I preferred. Then, she took my measurements and went to pull a few different items for me to try on. The only other time I have had items pulled specially for me was when I was shopping for my wedding dress. Now that's saying something!
When Nicolle returned with my first round of bras, I quickly realized I had NO idea how wrong I had been for the majority of my life.
Ladies, I don't know why when we're growing up, no one feels the need to tell us why bras are important, how they are actually supposed to be comfortable, how they are supposed to be cleaned and cared for, and especially HOW they are supposed to fit.
I had NO idea my delicates were actually 1 to 2 sizes too large in the band and too small in the bust and why that was happening.
I had NO idea strapless bras could actually stay in place comfortably.
I had NO idea that they should never get thrown in the dryer.
I had NO idea not washing on a daily basis would break down the fabric.
I had NO idea that they even needed to be washed on a daily basis!
Thankfully, Nicolle and Petticoat Fair came to my rescue and thoroughly explained all of these reasons to me and helped me achieve enlightenment.
After I became one of the enlightened elite, Nicolle proceeded to pull additional pieces for me and allowed me to try them all on and determine what fit me best in every aspect. She pulled at least 15 different items for me and listened to every question, every concern, and every comment I had about them. Once I found my perfect bra, she offered to pull swimsuits fit just for me as well, and she introduced me to my new favorite swimwear brand, SeaFolly. Seriously, SO many cute and flattering swimmies!
